About the Workshop:
This in-person class at Center for Book Arts is taught by instructor Zoe Katz.
This workshop teaches students how to make endbands. Endbands are pieces sewn onto the head and tail of a text block and in a decorative fashion, that also have a purpose for structural integrity. Students will understand how to sew two types of endbands as well as making two types of endbands that can be stuck on as a personalized alternative to pre-made endbands. Students will also be making "cores" to sew used in many types of endbands. We will discuss the possibilities of different types of materials for cores in endband making.

About the Instructor
Zoe Katz is an artist currently working in the medium of artist books. In addition, she does freelance bookbinding and works for bookbinders, artists, and artist bookmakers, helping them with the fabrication of larger artist book projects. She has taught workshops at universities including Pratt, Parsons, Cooper Union, and more. Her artist books have been acquired and are held in the collections of Harvard University, the Walker Art Center (Rosemary Furtak Artist Book Collection), Virginia Commonwealth University, SFMOMA Library, and the Jack Ginsberg Artists' Book Collection in South Africa. She is based in New York City.
