The name Afshar derives from the tribe who designs and creates these rugs (also known as the Avsar). Weaving has always been a major part of the artistic creativity of this tribe, and it is not likely to diminish at any time as it is traditionally taught from one generation to the next.

Finely woven and intricately patterned, this rug is more influenced by the fine Oriental weavings intended for commercial trade than the more rudimentary utilitarian village weavings made for domestic use. The quality and condition of this rug is first class as the top grade sheep wool colored by natural/vegetable dyes used in its' construction and the skill of the weaver have that the longevity and beauty of the rug is preserved, even though it has most certainly "outlived" the shepherds, shearers, spinners, dyers, craftsmen and artists who all contributed to its' creation
