An insightful and fascinating account of the Natural Museum's role during WWI

Written in diary form, this fascinating book by historian and journalist Karolyn Shindler traces events at London's Natural History Museum from 1914 to 1919.

She reveals not only how the four years of war fundamentally altered all aspects of Museum life but also how the Museum itself made an important contribution to Britain's war effort.

There are unexpected stories including the Museum’s role in propaganda, and odd tales such as panicked sightings of downed German Zepplins, which turn out to be dead whales. Intriguingly we learn the role Museum staff played in public awareness campaigns, producing displays and publications on subjects such as house flies and food hygiene at home, and applying their scientific know-how to practical problems in the field of conflict.

A highly readable book which shines a light on museum life during the Great War.

One of The New Statesman's Best Books of 2019.

REALLY CUTE SHOE BUT CUT WAY TOO SMALL!
Size: 8, Color: Black Patent
I received the black patent leather shoes today and they are so cute! Sadly I need to return them because they are cut way too small. I normally wear a 7.5 or 8 on dress shoes so I ordered the 8. They are so tight across the top that it's uncomfortable as soon as I put them on. They are smaller than a normal size 8 dress shoe. The big toe area is extremely uncomfortable because it doesn't allow any room for it at all, so my big toe just presses against the side and end of the shoe without even walking in them. I have very narrow feet and these still are too small for me. So I am returning them and I already ordered a 8.5 W and hope that will fit much better. The patent leather is very cute and adds just enough dressy that I can wear them with slacks or my Capri jeans. I like the slip on and the cushion foot bed because it feels soft.

Love these flats!
Size: 9 Wide, Color: Black White Faux Snake Skin, Size: 9 Wide, Color: Black White Faux Snake Skin
One of my favorite pair of flats! I’ve had these for several years and they are still comfortable, in good shape and really add a little spice to my outfits. I can wear these all day and not have any foot pain or discomfort as a result. The quality is good, fit is perfect and I tend to have difficulty with shoes due to bunions. Love these!!

LOVE LOVE.
Size: 7.5 Wide, Color: Beige
I love these shoes so much I had to write a review. So comfortable. Cushioned. Fits perfectly especially if you are more on the wide side. They are soft. Flexible. Easy slip ons you can walk around in all day. I want to try more colors.
