Why Upgrading from SYNC2 to SYNC3 Requires Replacing the Entire Set (Screen + USB Hub + APIM)
1. Screen Interface and Resolution Differences
The screen resolution and ribbon cable interface of SYNC2 are not compatible with SYNC3.
If the old SYNC2 screen is used, it can cause resolution mismatches, touch delay, or even a complete display failure.
Replacing it with a SYNC3-specific screen ensures sharper image quality, more responsive touch, and full system functionality.
2. USB Hub Does Not Support CarPlay / Android Auto
The original SYNC2 USB Hub only supports low-speed data transfer and charging. It does not support the high-speed communication protocols required for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
After upgrading to SYNC3, if the USB Hub is not replaced, CarPlay/Android Auto will not function properly or may frequently disconnect.
A SYNC3-compatible USB Hub, marked with the Apple logo, supports high-speed data transfer for a stable connection.
3. APIM Module is the Core, but Requires Matching Hardware
The APIM is the main module of SYNC3, responsible for running the new system and features.
If only the APIM is replaced without upgrading the screen and USB Hub, many functions will not work, such as unresponsive touch, non-functional CarPlay/Android Auto, or display errors.
4. Ensuring Compatibility and Stability
Replacing the entire set guarantees that all components match perfectly, preventing issues like signal mismatches, interface incompatibility, or unstable power that can cause system lag or black screens.
