How to install TL-SG3428

Setting up the TL-SG3428 is straightforward and designed for minimal downtime during deployment. Follow these steps to get your network up and running quickly and securely.

1) Prepare and mount — Unpack the switch and place it in a dedicated network rack or on a stable surface near your core network. If you’re deploying in a rack, use the standard rack ears to securely mount the device. Ensure adequate air flow around the unit to prevent overheating and maintain a quiet operating environment.

2) Physically connect your devices — Connect your end devices (PCs, servers, printers, IP phones) to the 24 RJ45 ports. Use the 4 SFP slots to connect uplinks to a distribution or core switch or to a high-capacity fiber link. For fiber connections, insert compatible SFP transceivers as required by your network design.

3) Power on and access the management interface — Power up the switch and connect a computer to one of the ports. Open a web browser or compatible management tool and access the switch’s web-based management interface using the device’s management IP. If the switch is configured to obtain an IP via DHCP, locate the address from your DHCP server; if not, follow the quick-start guide to set a static management IP address and reset credentials if needed.

4) Initial configuration and security — Log in with the default admin credentials provided in the quick-start guide and change the password immediately. Configure the management IP, enable secure management access (HTTPS/SSH), set up a strong administrator password, and enable basic security features such as ACLs and rate limiting to protect against misconfigurations and attacks.

5) Configure VLANs, QoS, and routing — Create VLANs as needed to segment traffic by department or function. Assign ports to the appropriate VLANs and configure inter-VLAN routing if required via static routes. Enable L2/L3/L4 QoS to prioritize critical traffic (voice, video, and business-critical applications) and apply ACLs to control cross-VLAN access. Set up link aggregation if you plan to bond uplinks for increased bandwidth and redundancy.

6) Save, test, and monitor — Save your configuration, test connectivity across devices, and validate QoS settings by running real-world traffic. Use the built-in monitoring tools and SNMP (if enabled) to observe port utilization, error rates, and performance, and adjust as needed to maintain optimal operation. Regularly check for firmware updates from TP-Link to ensure you have the latest security patches and feature enhancements.

For ongoing management, leverage Omada SDN or the JetStream management framework to centralize configuration, firmware management, and policy enforcement across multiple switches. This approach simplifies large-scale deployments, offers consistent security policies, and provides real-time visibility into network health and performance.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does the TL-SG3428 support PoE? No. The TL-SG3428 does not provide PoE output. If you need power-over-Ethernet for devices like IP cameras or phones, you would need a PoE-capable switch or an external PoE injector in your network design.
  • Is IPv6 supported on this switch? Yes. The TL-SG3428 includes IPv6 support for scalable, modern networks, enabling IPv6 management, addressing, and routing features alongside IPv4.
  • Can I use this switch with Omada SDN? Absolutely. The TL-SG3428 is designed to integrate with Omada networks, allowing centralized management, policy enforcement, and streamlined deployment within an Omada-enabled environment.
  • What about QoS and security? The switch offers comprehensive QoS (L2/L3/L4) to prioritize critical applications and ACLs to control traffic between VLANs, enhancing security and performance for business-critical workloads.
  • How many uplinks does it provide and what are they? The TL-SG3428 provides four SFP slots for high-capacity uplinks, enabling flexible fiber connections to core or distribution switches, and ensuring scalable, redundant uplink options as your network grows.
  • Is stacking or chassis-based aggregation supported? The TL-SG3428 supports robust uplink and VLAN configurations for scalable networks, but it is designed as a standalone L2+/L3-ready switch rather than a dedicated stacking member. For larger deployments, consider a tiered architecture with multiple TL-SG3428 units connected via LACP and proper VLAN design.

Same Apple quality for less $
Style: 256GB | Magic Keyboard, Color: Citrus, Set: Without AppleCare+
I’ve had my Neo about a week now and I love it. I was hesitant because it uses an iPhone chip instead of an M chip like other MacBooks. But my 2020 MacBook Air M1 started having display screen issues (vertical and horizontal lines, flickering) so I needed to get something before it failed completely. I didn’t want to spend $1,100+ for a new Air, so I researched the Neo. It’s actually faster than my old Air and I’ve had no problems at all using it for everything I always use my laptops for, which is mostly writing books, email, web browsing, Zoom meetings, and video streaming. I haven’t had any performance problems with a dozen or more tabs open at the sand time. I got the 8Gb, which is plenty even for the thousands of documents and photos I have saved. I have entire book drafts of 200+ pages saved, a doctoral dissertation, and hundreds of research articles saved for my dissertation. It’s more than adequate for my needs. It’s very light weight. The citrus color is pretty. The keyboard is very responsive and feels even better than the Air. The battery doesn’t last as long as the Air before needing recharged but it’s still long lasting. No complaints.

Style: 256GB | Magic Keyboard, Color: Citrus, Set: Without AppleCare+
The power this little MacBook has and how fast it runs is everything. The performance is top tier for what I use it for. Battery life is also great. If you been wanting a Macbook but don’t want to spend a lot of money. You should get it! It holds a little weight to it but nothing too crazy.

Ridiculously satisfying!
Size: iPad A16 11th/10th, Size: iPad A16 11th/10th
YES! I am completely obsessed with the SPARIN Screen Protector for iPad! From the moment I applied it, my screen looked crystal clear and felt silky smooth like butter under my fingers. The fit is absolutely perfect for both my 11th and 10th generation iPads, hugging every edge without a single bubble or misalignment. I love how responsive it is... swipes, taps, and even intense drawing sessions feel flawless, like my iPad is brand new again. The protector is tough and scratch-resistant, so I can toss it in my bag without worrying about keys or pens ruining my screen. I also love that it doesn’t mess with the display brightness or clarity, so everything still looks vibrant and sharp. Applying it was super easy and stress-free, which honestly surprised me because I expected a million bubbles or frustration. Five stars all the way for a screen protector that makes my iPad feel safe, sleek, and ridiculously satisfying to use every single day!
