The combination of a “AA” Sitka Spruce soundboard, streaky ebony fingerboard/bridge and blackwood, provides a tone that is rich, full, well balanced and with the glassy highs essential to the tone of this fantastic guitar. Victorian Blackwood is one of the most visually stunning timbers available, Blackwood has also become an important tonewood. Most of the Blackwood comes from the Otway Ranges in Victoria, Australia. It often displays "fiddleback" character and "AAA" grade Blackwood can be intensely figured. It has a warm, full tone with a particularly pleasing mid frequency response and has become one of the most sought after timbers. It may be of interest to learn, that whenever a Maton employee gets to make their own guitar, they almost always choose Blackwood.
The AP5 Pro Pickup System(arguably the best acoustic pickup in the world) includes a separate microphone and piezo pickup, both of which can be blended via their individual controls. The microphone is direct mounted to the preamp casing via an adjustable arm, which permits easy final tweaking of microphone position to suit the individual artists style. Use it on the Stage, use it in the Studio, use it wherever you can plug it on in!
